Climate change and nature loss will have an impact on all of us and on future generations. We need to stop the pollution causing climate change and protect and increase the space for nature.

What Are Our Key Challenges and Priorities

  • Carbon Neutral by 2030 - Cutting emissions and balancing carbon through offsets like tree planting
  • Net Zero by 2045 - Reducing carbon across all industries and supply chains
  • Protecting Nature - Declaring an ecological emergency to restore habitats and biodiversity

The Local Plan can help by

  • Identifying Suitable Land for Net-Zero Infrastructure - The plan will allocate land for the development of vehicle charging points and renewable energy projects
  • Promoting Sustainable Design - New buildings and developments will be required to meet high energy efficiency standards, be resilient to climate impacts, and minimize emissions
  • Supporting Biodiversity and Nature Recovery - The Local Plan will protect existing habitats and create new green spaces that contribute to biodiversity, improve air quality, and support community wellbeing
  • Flood Mitigation and Resilience - The plan will integrate flood mitigation strategies, including the use of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) and the protection of natural flood plains, to ensure the city is resilient to climate impacts
