The council has launched a six-week engagement exercise to seek feedback from the public and other stakeholders on the proposed designs for two roundabout improvement schemes at Ennerdale Leisure Centre Roundabout and Wawne Road / Bude Road Roundabout, as part of the Kingswood Area Action Plan.

The council’s aim is to provide a transport network that -

  • is easy and convenient to walk, cycle or use public transport
  • people can travel in safety and security, using whatever form of transport they choose
  • provides reliable and sustainable links within the city and to surrounding areas
  • provides equal access to opportunities and resources to support education, training, employment and cultural events
  • helps the council deliver its ambitions to be carbon neutral by 2030 and ensure residents can lead healthier, longer and happier lives

Securing feedback on the designs for these schemes is an important milestone and will help the council finalise the necessary documents required for the projects to go out for tender.

A contractor will then be appointed to deliver the scheme, which is anticipated to start on site in winter 2025.

The schemes will -

  • provide additional road space for vehicles and prepare the area for the future and any new development
  • improve cycle and pedestrian facilities to support people to walk and ride more
  • provide new signalised cycle and pedestrian crossing points to improve safety
  • see the management of trees in the area, some of which are proposed to be taken up and replanted. Where this cannot be accommodated, twice as many replacement trees will be planted to improve the local landscape
